A construction shot of Central Islip
Church of Christ's 70' dome.
At the close of our last
newsletter, UCS's assembly crew was in Central Islip,
New York, assembling a 70' geodesic dome for Central
Islip Church of Christ. Pastor Jackson and his
congregation are looking forward to worshiping in their
new sanctuary. The church is presently working on the
tie-in area between the new building and the existing
structure. To best utilize the church’s property and
gain additional square footage, the dome was built on a
basement.
For most of our crew,
this was their first time in New York City. We are happy
the boys took time to visit some of the sites. One day,
they took a train into Manhattan. They were able to see
Times Square and the Empire State Building. They even
caught a glimpse of Lady Liberty.
On January 22, we were in
Pemberton, New Jersey, assembling a 100' octagon for
Saint Mark’s Baptist Church. They first learned about
our company after seeing Abundant Life Fellowship’s
120' geodesic dome in Willingboro, New Jersey. The
Pemberton congregation chose the octagon structure, but
did not want to go without the cupola option. This is a
brand new complex for Saint Mark’s. The floor plan has
everything under one roof. The offices and classrooms
surround the sanctuary. This gives them the option of
removing the rooms in the future and expanding the
sanctuary seating. This is a nice option for growing
congregations. By adding an education and/or fellowship
wing to one of our structures the complex can grow as
the congregation grows.
Saint Mark’s is our
fifth project with our friends from Alexander
Construction of Pittsburgh, and Frank Brainard, AIA of
Warren, Ohio. Previous projects include an 80' dome for
New Life Covenant in Sharpsville, Pennsylvania, an 80'
dome for Union Baptist in Youngstown, Ohio, a 120' dome
for Abundant Life Fellowship in Willingboro, New Jersey,
and a 60' dome for Trinity Full Gospel Church of Lake
Milton, Ohio. As always, we enjoy working with Frank
Brainard and Alexander Construction. We look forward to
our future projects together.
