Abundant
Life Believes that Bigger is Better
by
Shawn Barrett
This
Spring, the UCS crew traveled to Edgewater Park, NJ to erect a new
120' dome with a 24' Sidewall.

The 24' Sidewall on Abundant Life's dome is the
largest of its' kind on a UCS structure.
On April 12, the UCS
crew began assembling Abundant Life Fellowship’s 120' geodesic
dome. The design of the Edgewater Park, New Jersey church called for
a 24' sidewall. As you can see, it will be quite a complex. When our crew arrived home they were ready for a few days
of rest. The are not getting any younger you know.
Abundant Life’s new complex is
being built at the old Holiday Lakes Park. The site has a beautiful
lake which once was an area for local recreation. The church hopes
to bring special recreation activities back to the community as part
of it’s ministry.
The new church was designed to seat
1,000 people. The layout of the new sanctuary includes seating for
665 on the main floor, 86 in the choir, and 258 in the balcony.
When the church installs it’s 40'
lighted steeple, the building will be 94' high at the peak. Our
on-site supervisor, Matt Becker, said, "You can see this
building a mile away." Our crew said that from the roof, they
could see Philadelphia which is 20 miles away. I am not sure about
the rest of you, but I’ll take their word for it!
The head of the building committee,
Aubrey Fenton, is pushing us to engineer larger geodesic domes. He
feels they will need to build a 150' before long. We certainly do
not want to disappoint him when that time comes.
We would like to recognize Alexander
Construction Services for their hard work on this project. It is
always a pleasure to work with them. The design/build firm, out of
Pittsburgh, has been assisting churches for over 40 years and their
experience makes for projects we can all be proud of.
