Foundation
Before Assembly
Prior to the UCS crew arriving on site,
several members of the church placed the
foundation for the octagon.
Unloading
the Arches
Once the delivery
truck arrives on site, the UCS crew begins
unloading the arches with a fork truck.
Building
Walls
After arriving
on-site, one of the first responsibilities
for the UCS crew is building the exterior
sidewalls for the shell.
Placing
OSB on the Sidewalls
After the UCS
crew frames a sidewall section, they will
place Oriented Strand Board (OSB) on the
exterior of the walls.
Preparing
Arches for Assembly
Prior to assembling
the arches, the UCS crew prepares them
on the ground by attaching steel hardware. That
steel hardware is used to connect the arches
to the purlins.
Placing
Steel
While the arches
are on the ground, the UCS crew attaches
the steel hangers by placing bolts through
pre-drilled holes.
Attaching
an Arch
On this job,
the UCS crew used two cranes to assemble
the arches. The first crane held
the steel hub in place, while the second
lifted each arch to the connecting point
on the hub.
Lifting
an Arch
Once the UCS
crew secures an arch to the crane line,
it is lifted from the foundation, then
is attached at the connecting hub and the
steel shoe.
Lining
Up an Arch
Once an arch
is hoisted by a crane, the delicate process
of lining it up to the hub begins.
Placing
of Purlins
After the arches
are in place, the UCS crew begins placing
purlins. Purlins are the supporting
wood beams which run between each arch.
Placing
the Sidewall
Prior to assembling
the roof deck, the UCS crew used a fork
truck to move the wall segments into place,
where they were attached to the outside
of the beams.
Lifting
a Roof Panel
To assemble the
roof deck, each roof panel is attached
to a crane, and then hoisted up where they
are placed by crew members using lifts
on the inside of the shell.
Setting
Roof Panels
Once the roof
panels are prepared on the ground, the
crew uses a crane to hoist them in place
on top of the arches and purlins. The
crew will then use lifts to position themselves
to attach the panels to the superstructure.
Finishing
the Ceiling
Because the UCS
crew needed to lift the panels in place,
they left out sections of the wood deck
on the inside of the roof. Once the
panels were in place, they inserted the
missing segments into the ceiling.

Church. Notice the wood deck

Church
Ceiling with a Wood Deck Interior
The inside of
the sanctuary was finished with a lightly
stained wood deck. This was our first
project with wood deck. Undoubtedly,
there will be many more.
The
UCS Crew
After completing
another successful job, the UCS crew stops
to pose for a photograph. Visible
from left to right are Riley Ferguson,
Joe Zayler, Bob Stimson, Matt Becker, Rick
Ferguson, and Pat Kreiner.
Construction
of the Wing Extensions
After the UCS crew finished the shell,
members of Bronner Construction went
to work building the extension wings
for the fellowship area and
classrooms.

Deck after Completion

installed the final pieces.
